Here in Rio de Janeiro, I donīt find a place where I can buy peat pellets. I brought several from my last trip to the US and found out that they are excellent to sow seeds.
Some of the seeds I sowed didnīt spout.
The question is: Can I reuse the expanded peat pellets?????
Should I sterilize in the microwave????? How long??? Will they burn inside the microwave???? Did anybody ever tried???
I didnīt want to trow them away, so, if you have any experience with this, please write.
Many ,many thanks
Lucia
A very silly question about peat pellets
Hello Lucia - are these the ones that you buy flat, are each enclosed in a net and swell up when left in water?
If they are you can use them again if you have kept them moist, or can re-moisten them. I always used these for germinating Cylamen persicum the pot plant Cyclamen. I see no need to sterilise simply because some seeds did not germinate. It does not necessarily mean that there is any disease that needs to be killed.
If you would like to do so, just boil some water and gently pour it over the pellets and alow to drain away and cool.
Peter.
Thank you very much, Peter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I will do as you said.
Lucia
