Also could be Star of Yelta!

Another possibility is Grandpa Otts!

Logee's has one that is similar. It is called Ipomoea Acuminata. "Blue Dawn Flower" The way names are sometimes put to flowers they could be the same, but your picture looks just a little different with the darker stripes in the bloom. Gorgeous plant in any case and now I see something else that I'd like to have. :-)

Greenville, SC(Zone 7a)

I'd like to have it to!!! What a beauty!!

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

One site mentioned it simply as 'Common Morning Glory'. I also visited the site where you got the pic.

Sharpsville, PA(Zone 5a)

It is rather lovely ,isn't it. Glad you found the site where I surfed on it. I guess you couldn;t find any fine print that said what it was either. Maybe its just a blending of others and it came out this way> have to look up that Kniola Black. Thanks all , for your help

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Mimi - I'd bet this was from the common mixed morning glories. It probably isn't a named variety. I have one that's almost the same color that came from a mix.

I've got the Kniola's too.. http://davesgarden.com/tl/poppysue/viewentry/12981.html It looks a lot like the Grandpa Ott's.

The Scarlet Star does look just like the pink from the Mt. Fuji mix. Does it have variegated leaves? The Mt. Fuji ones do---really neat!

Sharpsville, PA(Zone 5a)

OH! I am so excited to have these MG grow! And I have snow out my window!!

(Zone 8a)

MsBatt...scarlet star does have variagated leaves...lol, I grew these last year too and didn't realize it and bought more for this year... They too didn't bloom as good as the others...In my opinion the more common ones bloom and bloom and the more rare ones are just a rare delight when they bloom!

I forgot to post pics of the scarlet star on my website last year but will add them soon!

Sharpsville, PA(Zone 5a)

imaseedpicker...which ones do you refer to as the rare ones so, I can be on the lookout for my ones if they don;tbloom well.? Seems like mine alwasy did better on the South Side of the house too...and this year. Since I am running out of earth in some areas ..I am putting them in pots

ok,where do you get the scarlet star mg.
i want some. I grew the grandpa otts last
year and it is really pretty.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Imaseedpicker, do they really have variegated leves? I didn't know that.. :) By the way, how are the seeds growing I sent to you? How big is the pes-caprae?

Bitty, I got the seeds from Debbie in Danmark.

Mingsmimi, the Finnish text is our Morning Glory thread in Puutarha.net discussion forums. I write with name Huuhkaja there :}

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Evert - I have some of your pes-caprae seeds. I haven't started them yet. I know they grow in sand - but are they annual or perennial? The pictures I've seen show them only growing along the ground. Will they climb if you give them a support? I wonder if they'd grow in a basket...

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Poppysue, they are perennial and have wooden stems.. and they grow pretty large. And nee dlots of sun. See my photo, if you haven't seen it yet. http://community.webshots.com/photo/11958862/11959543kqJvlMbAKA

I think they are better as groundcovers, but you can try them in trellis or something.. remember that they are tropical so don't let them get cold ;)

(Zone 8a)

Evert...Yes, they do have variagated leaves and I found the pic to prove it below... Whoops...no upload to place picture, I will upload it to my site and post it here tonite! the caprae are just now sprouting!

Poppy, you will have to nick the caprae hard to get them to sprout!

Bitty...you can get scarlet star at seedman.com scroll to vines link!

(Zone 8a)

Well these are not red scarlet but must be related ...http://server105.hypermart.net/rebeccasgardenweb/rebeccasmgs.htm

LOL... maybe I didn't screw up by ordering the red scarlet!

Last summer my mother grew the Scarlet Star/Mt. Fuji fuchsia-pink (that's the name I got it under) up her dogwood tree. It bloomed like CRAZY! The year before she'd had only one or two vines there (and I'd picked most of the seeds off them, lol) but they reseeded themselves like wildfire! (I must have missed a BUNCH of seeds.) It definately had variegated leaves, and definately was NOT what I call scarlet---I'd say a bright, intense fuchsia pink color. Is there one like this that is truly scarlet red?

Sharpsville, PA(Zone 5a)

That Crimson climber? I think thats what I have bits and pieces of. I had something that just "appeared' last year on my back arbor. And I honestly don;t remember planting it last year. so, maybe it didn;t do well the year before and then. it did. It it is theree This year, which I hope it will be. I will take photos of it.Know what...let me go scrounge around out there once I wake upand If I can find ou some seeds, you can try it. Remember, there is always the light factor. they do look totally different in different lighting. and how old they are. I know my HEAVENLY BLUES last year... They were the most True blue when they were young babies. once they started to get older, they weren;t the same color. And when you photographed them. they didn;t look blue at all.... lavendar.

Blum, TX(Zone 8a)

hi! mingsmimi, the purple /red star is what I have. i believe it to be the grampa ott, an heirloom. and... what you are calling crimson climber is what I call crimson rambler. It's a dk. pink /white throat. I have several kinds of morning glories and would like to trade for something I don't have.

(Zone 8a)

Hey Tink...I have a lot of mg's too...let me know what you have and if I don't have it we'll swap!

Let me know!
Rebecca
