Possible Tree ID Please

Hi! So this popped up in my garden bed over the winter. It turned a deep almost purple color once it got cold. The early bark was a reddish with white speckles, but seems to be browning a bit. I am trying to figure out what it is because maybe I want to transplant and keep it, but can't seem to identify. Also, I live in Phoenix. Thanks y'all!

Any chance someone threw out an old apple core?

That looks remarkably like a member of Rosaceae, and attributes point to Malus sp. in my mind.

Looks like some overwintered pepper variety.
