I will be planting at least 3 different kinds of hardy fuchsias (zone 7b/8a). I am told that they will die back down to the ground and sprout up again in the spring. That led me to assume that they bloom from new wood. But one nursery assures me that they bloom on old wood, in which case I would not remove the old (dead) wood. Who knows about fuchsias??
conflicting info about hardy fuchsias
They bloom on new wood, but the old growth usually is left in place over winter to protect the crown of the plant.
