Weed Killer like Vinegar and table salt and dishsoap

Is the weed killer vinegar, table salt and dishsoap harmful to Hostas. I live in Omaha, Nebraska and trying to get hostas to grow around my tree and deck but I am getting alot of weeds. Like tall grasses.

Please advise.

Thanks,

I would never use salt unless you want nothing to grow in that area. It will ruin the soil. Vinegar will kill the foliage, but not the roots. Get in there with a border spade.

Agree with Ezek. Anti-chemical, homegamer crowd love to recommend such concoctions without understanding consequences. Contact will damage hosta and everything else, but not effectively kill weeds. Salt will persist in soil which is never good. Dig up the weeds, consider applying a preventer like Preen, apply fertilizer, then apply 2" of mulch.
