I am here in San Antonio visiting my sister. We are from Massachusetts. The blueberries in New England are delicious. She has gone to Whole Foods, HEB, and Target to buy fresh blueberries for our visit. She has said that no matter where she goes to get blueberries, they taste and smell musty. We got to taste the berries she purchased yesterday at Whole Foods and must agree that they definitely have a strange smell and taste. (Musty definitively) They taste as if they have been stored in a damp musty environment. I can understand getting a bad box once in awhile, but she has lived here for 20 years and has made an observation that the blueberries and blackberries are just terrible here in this area. I was wondering if if is because they are imported and may be stored somewhere damp or whether it is something they are sprayed with? Just wondering if you might shed some light in this mystery. Could it be the water or the soil?

They are moldy. Blueberries only grow in cold climates. There's no point buying them in Texas. They'll have traveled a long way.
