Correct lineage of two popular Ipomoea hybrids.

Honolulu, HI

I would like to have clarified, the lineage of two popular Morning Glory cultivars: the Ipomoea sloteri and the Ipomoea x Multifida. Many sources claim that these two hybrids are synonymous, with the parents being: (1.) I. coccinea (the seed-bearing parent), and (2.) I. quamoclit (the pollen- bearing parent). But a few sources identify the parents of Ipomoea x Multifida as (1.) I. hederifolia (seed parent) and (2.) I. quamoclit (pollen parent). The I. coccinea species can be differentiated from the I. hederifolia species, by the presence of reflexed floral pedicels, whereas in I. hederifolia, the pedicels remain erect. Could anyone verify or refute this possible misinformation, to generate a better understanding of the true origin of these two plants?

Is it possible that Ipomoea hederifolia and Ipomoea coccinea are the same plant, and that one is a subspecies of the other? At least one major online plant nursery identifies the two (species) as being synonymous with one another.
