I have a Seiryu in the front yard in coastal north carolina. We just moved here in the middle of summer and it was full and green. I'm wondering what the typical fall course is for these trees? it's turning a burnt/brown color with shriveling leaves. Never had a nice full leaf color change. Trunk still looks good, and there are new shoots since the leaf changes. Is this normal?

The following source shows a red-orange color for the tree in autumn. If it got too dry over summer, the leaves may have dried up rather than changing color properly. Yes, Japanese maples can make new growth both in spring and autumn.

What kind of autumn do you have in N. Carolina? Do the days get much shorter? How cold is it? Also, did you get any hurricanes this past season?
