I planted two Cherokee Purple tomatoes at what I thought were the perfect time - the first of April. The plants look great, but between the two plants, only about a dozen tomatoes have set.
Are Cherokee Purples light bearers by nature?
I would expect near or twice that number with a reduction in size as you reach the upper number. I grow CP and Black Krim from saved seed every year and can't find any difference regarding look or taste. However, Black Krim plants are consistently more robust growers and out produce CP. Maybe it's just the way the two strains have developed in my garden.
How do you cultivate your plants? That might be impacting production. I remove suckers for the first two feet and then, because of our intense heat and sun, the caged plants are allowed to branch so the bases are shaded. I occasionally remove some flowers to increase fruit size but generally don't bother.
