Last year I tried to overwinter a rosemary plant, unsuccessfully. I am going to try again. I would appreciate any tips. Is it critical that it doesn't dry out? Does it have a minimum light requirement?

It requires your sunniest window, a very well well drained potting mix and to dry out somewhat between waterings. Do not let the plant sit in a wet drainage tray. If it is in a one half to one gallon pot it should dry out about two inches down between waterings. If it's in a smaller pot it will be hard to maintain proper wet/dry cycles.

When cutting, cut from the inside to the outside, and halfway to two thirds down on the branch to promote a fuller center. There's a tendency to cut the outside branches which encourages new peripheral growth while the inner branches begin to age and bald.

Good luck! I am challenging the zone growing it in the N. Georgia mountains but have a shrub that's now about 4' x 2'. I have a smaller one in a raised planter and sometimes make pots for indoors in winter which I use and then give away in spring.

If you can access some sharp sand, also called course or builder's sand, that's a good additive to a standard potting mix. Don't use play sand; the type used in kid's sandboxes. It's too fine. Perlite mix is okay but it is light weight and a top heavy plant will lean.
