I bought a healthy Michelia Champaca tree from a Florida grower. The plant arrived bright green with leaves. Because I live in Southern California (Zip: 92336) zone 10a...I knew the sun was going to be intense and the heat in the mid-upper 90's. I left the plant on my porch out of the sun for a week. Then I put it close to the sun for 1 week. Then I put it into the sun the following week and began to deep water it every 2-3 days. The plant slowly lost its leaves and is now becoming a black stick. There is still some green at the top of the plant. Is there a proper way to acclimatize the plant so that it will tolerate the direct sun and heat and now die? Did I over water it and that's what killed it?
