Happened practically overnight !
What happened to my knockout rose?
Looks like some kind of insect chewing. I hope that is what you are referring to?
Yes. What should I do? Cut it back?
Spray or use systemic. It is very hard to kill a Knockout rose. I've dug mine up and moved to a new location. The roots that I didn't get out, continue to sprout new bushes. You can also cut to the ground and they will flush out again. I cut mine twice a year (started at 18", then 12", then last year to the ground - it doesn't matter), once after the first bloom is over and then at the end of summer. They always flush out new stems and blooms.
If you cannot see some "bug" poop or bug stragglers??? You would need a giant flock of bugs, overnight to remove all of those leaves. Do not use bug killers in your garden when you have no idea that your issue is a bug.
I have seen deer do that to a rose here in Pennsylvania.
