I have spent the past decade building up a small lawn with liriope. It took this long because builders had scraped off all topsoil leaving clay and rocks. So after nurturing the ground and encouraging the plugs of liriope, it gradually grew full.
Last year, there were a few nutgrass plants, which I obsessively dug out. This year the nutgrass is choking out the liriope. My question is do I just allow the nut grass to take over? I do not mind how it looks, but I do not know what the down side is. Will it aggressively pervade the flower beds surrounding this area? I guess I know the answer, but how aggressively? Is this a reason to kill everything and start again?
Lat year\'s liriope is this year\'s nutgrass
