I'm having trouble id'ing this shrub. A co-worker believes it to be a kind of barberry, but I'm pretty sure it's not. It is thornless and does not bleed yellow. Its leaves do look somewhat like barberry though in size and shape. Any help would be much appreciated!

Spiraea sp. - you can see the seed structures in your second image. Leaves that I can see are a match as well.
