I'm looking to add more plants to my new container garden, and I was wondering if Early Sweet Sugar Pie Pumpkins (by Burpee) can grow inside of a 10 or 15 gallon container. Is that enough room for the roots to grow? I've never grown pumpkins before, and I'm not really looking to grow any big ones.
Is it possible to grow pumpkins in containers?
Try Minnesota Midget.
I gave you a bad plant recommendation. Minnesota Midget is a melon! But you can grow a pumpkin plant in a container. The vine will travel quite a bit. Make sure it has room.
Of course yes. You can grow anything in a pot. It just depends on the size of the pot. And the soil type of course. For pumpkins, you'll need a large container and then blend in the right soil. The best size for the container is 20-24 inches deep, or simply a 5 gallon container. This way, you have enough space for its development. But don't forget to poke some holes at the bottom for drainage purposes. That's because pumpkins, just like most veggies, can rot quickly when exposed to a muddy and soggy soil.
