I have several Lysimachia punctata 'Alexander' plants. I live in the Denver area. After a couple of frosts, they seem to have died. There is no green left. Do these plants die back every year and come back again in the spring?
Lysimachia punctata 'Alexander'
Zones 4,5,6,7,8 and it is a perennial. Mulch well in Colo..
Thanks for your reply but I wonder if it died because there is not much there after the frost. Does it return in the spring? Does it reseed?
Completely hardy down to at least zone 2. There should be no need to mulch... I never have mulched, living in various zone 3 locales and growing it. Yes, it dies to the ground in cold climates and regrows in spring.

It grows by rhizomes underground, from what I can tell. Unknown to me if that means it will relocate itself to a different spot next year, chuckl, I can't grow them. If you got it planted early enough it should come back from those rhizomes; if in doubt, as I said, mulch well against the cold, and good luck!
"Dying to the ground after a couple of frosts" is normal behaviour for herbaceous perennials in cold zones.
They die back in not so cold zones too, when it gets cold enough. In the cold winter months my place looks bare but come spring it explodes with color.
