Found this growth at the base of my crepe myrtle. It's very barkish in texture. Is this a problem? For some reason the picture is uploaded sideways.

Crown Gall, a bacteria, Agrobacterium tumefaciens. Enters through wounds. May travel systemically through the plant and show up higher, but usually seen closer to the soil (such as yours).
