My Cherokee Purple tomatoes are healthy and wonderful except for one problem. The fruiting stems seem to be weak and bend over as the tomatoes grow. This has happened for several years, with seeds from different sources. Anyone else have this problem?
Cherokee Purple weak stems
if your tomatoes are in a cage, perhaps you could take some fabric and tie it between the cage bars, and make a "hammock" of sorts for some of the fruits to grow on....just an idea, ive seen it done on watermelons, lol
The weight of fruits will cause the stems to bend , especially for large fruited varieties, for all varieties, not just for Cherokee Purple, which I've grown since the first year Craig L in NC introduced it, back in 1992.
How are you growing your tomatoes? By staking, trellising, sprawling caging, containers, etc,
Carolyn
Carolyn I just picked the biggest Chapman. One slice is bigger than a pc of bread. The stem was bent over but it held the tomato no problem.
