Looks like something fungal. How often are you watering and how much sunlight is the seedling getting?

Singapore, Singapore

it gets about 6-7 hours of sunlight and I water it twice every week. It has been raining here for the past week and the leaves with black spots are starting to wilt. Do you have any suggestion on what to do?

If it's been raining a lot at your location, you'll definitely want to stop watering it yourself. If it's still in the pot, you might want to move it out from the rain or change the growing medium to something with more grit so it drains better. Only water the plant when the top inch of soil is dry. It should still be okay as long as you can limit its water.

thanks for your suggestion. By the way, there is this green mold like on the side of the pot, could this be the cause? This is the first time i plant sunflower so i only let the seed sprout in the bottle as you can see before moving it to a proper place, maybe it's not a appropriate medium for the plant?

That green stuff is likely an algae of some sort caused by excessive moisture and humidity. It is not harming the plant but an indicator that the plant is definitely getting too much moisture.

Thank you! will update on the plant's condition later.

Ok, good luck!

It's getting too much water and the algal growth is resultant of light that passes through the translucent container. Algae robs the soil of oxygen and inhibits gas exchange - neither are beneficial. If exposed to any direct sun, soil temps could get as high as 40-50* higer than ambient temps as a result of passive solar gain. Organic soil amendments sold as fertilizers (fish emulsion, various meals [feather, horn, blood, cottonseed, alfalfa meals would all contribute to the amount of algae you have to deal with.

Interesting about the algae Tapla. Thanks for the info :-) Perhaps the OP should repot then?

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

While we're coming into the very best part of the growth cycle for repotting tropical perennials, sunflowers are annuals and often pitch a fit if they're repotted. I'll be repotting a LOT of tropical trees over the next 2-3 weeks. I planned a long weekend, starting today, to focus on repotting.

A wick would probably help a lot! See picture at bottom left.
