Blossom End Rot

Peachtree City, GA(Zone 8a)

Tomatoes on one of my plants has blossom end rot. Is the plant a goner or can I get future tomatoes without blossom end rot from it. I am growing it in a 5 gallon bucket and we have had a ridiculous amount of rain.

blossom end rot is most certainly not a fatal disease.

I would definitely fault the rain on this one. Once things dry out a bit i bet all of the tomatoes that came afterwards would look ok.

Couldnt hurt to give it a dose of calcium either

It's much more common in the first tomatoes of the season and has a lot to do with how much water they are getting.

Thanks jmc1987 and 1lisac, I really did not want to throw out this heirloom. I have been growing tomatoes for years and never had blossom end rot.

If you look in the resource thread at the top of this page and look at favorite articles you'll find one there from me about BER.

I think it's good to know how it forms and why, and what might or might not help in preventing it.
