After these rainy days in Huntsville Texas, my bare feet itch like crazy when I stroll through my yard. Maybe my feet are sensitive to some kind of caustic runoff? acid rain? fermented foliage?..it never has bothered me to walk barefoot in the grass in the past..I hope this is just some quirk associated with the recent deluge and that the hostile itchys will depart as soon as it dries up. I want my bare foot friendly yard back!
wet grass itchy feet
Perhaps there is a mold or mildew in there you can't see and you are allergic to it. Perhaps you can test it next time it rains by rubbing your one hand over the grass to see if it starts itching too. The other hand will be the control.
Chiggers?
Chiggers!
Yikes! That'd make me wear shoes from now on.
You could probably test that by liberally spraying one foot with insect repellent or "skin so soft" bath oil (I seem to recall that's pretty effective against chiggers as well as gnats). If that foot stays non-itchy, then yah, chiggers. Although, chiggers always made little red welts on my skin, and it sounds like you're itchy but not necessarily bitten up.
Have you put down something like weed & feed on your grass? Maybe there's a chemical that's re-activated by the rain and that you're sensitive to.
I love to go barefoot, so I feel you!
that's sounds like a great way to test insect vs non insect for starters.
