Started these conflower seeds today in the fridge. How successful is this?
starting seeds in fridge?
Hi Numanguy-
Sorry-this probably will not work at all.
This species likes to germinate at room temperature, rather than having a cold spell like some other species.
My recommendation-
get a paper towel. make it moist- wing it out so not soaking wet. fold it a few times so it will fit in the baggie, then sprinkle the seeds between the layers. Put it back in the baggie, then put it on the kitchen counter out of the way. This species will probably sprout in 1 to 3 weeks. Look in there every now and again, when they sprout put them in pots in potting soil.
The other species people talk about that like/need the fridge- they also want to be moist like this, in the moist paper towel in the baggie, dry cold just lets them stay dormant for longer! If you wanted to save them to try next year this would be a good way to do it.
Good luck, let us know how it works.
