I grow a gorgeous Celeste tree which I've trained as a tree rather than enormous shrub. When growing as a tree. I've noticed the massive root system. Can one plant underneath a fig or will roots strangle anything in site? Tks for your help
Attention fig growers, hv question
it's only a guess but I think the tree will use all the food and water in the area. Probably best to not plant so close. because of that and you may injure the roots of the tree.
Figs are very shallow rooted, and they don't need much water or fertilizer. If you plant other things - they might want more care than the fig. So unless you plan to plant something that is as independent as the fig, I'd say forget it.
I have nasturtiums under black mission, but they are wild, and I don't water them at all, unless I'm giving the fig a drink. I pull 'em when they are all dried out, and shake them so the pods will replant.
