Chelone now

(Zone 4b)

I have several of these plants.

- Chelone "Hotlips" (love those dark shiny leaves)
- Chelone "Ieniemienie" (more compact and flowers much earlier in the summer)

And the one pictured below is I think

- Chelone "lyonii"

It is located in lots of shade and is looking good this late summer.

Lovely! I've never heard of this plant before

Thank you valal. (They are known as "Turtle Heads"...for the shape of the flower).

This is the first year of blooms for my chelone lyonii 'Hot Lips'. They started as plugs last year. I also have chelone glabra. Both were planted in the 'Turtle Garden' - keeping with the turtle theme LOL.

Love that turtle!

Thanks. I'm going to have to look for that other chelone you mentioned - Chelone "Ieniemienie". It would like more, especially with a different bloom time than the ones I have.

Yours look much more full than mine. Must be that I don't provide enough supplemental water.

(Zone 4b)

'happy', I attribute the fullness of mine to its maturity (it gets no supplementary water). In the first two seasons it was much scrawnier. This year it has very much filled out.

That's great to hear!
