I have several of these plants in my yard and after googling a lot, I can't figure out if this is the edible type of hibiscus flower. Can anyone help? Thanks so much.
Help! Is this the edible Hibiscus Flower
Hi Aegisprncs,
I can't quite make out the foliage, but the foliage looks variegated. Are the leaves white/green or white/pink (or red)/green?
If just white/green you might have the variety 'Snow Queen' - http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/47435/
If the leaves have a bit of pink/red in them; it might be 'Fire-N-Ice' -

Aren't all hibiscus flowers edible?
Martha
Hope someone will say hibiscus flowers are edible. I believe they would make great additions to a salad.
I grow Nasturtiums in the winter from seeds for both the edible flowers and leaves. They taste like radish and are beautiful to boot.
;)
A couple of sources show hibiscus to be edible, but in my opinion, it's not to flavorful.

This particular hibiscus has both green and verigated. I am hoping someone says they are edible as well.
My iguana loves them, flowers and leaves...but I don't think that counts. LOL
I don't know of any "poisonous" species of hibiscus, so technically they may all be "edible". Whether that means they would be pleasant to eat is a different question. Some members of the family are medicinal, which means they may interfere with medications you're taking. It's virtually impossible to say with any certainty by looking at a picture of a flower (of a genus that has been highly developed as an ornamental) whether or not it is good to eat. There is a LOT of information (including pictures) available from a simple Google search. (e.g.: http://edibleplantproject.org/cranberryhibiscus/)
