I just bought 4 , beautiful, 4 foot Goldrush Dawn redwood trees 'Meta-sequoia glypt 'Gold rush' and I have seen these used and kept looking small in landscaping ... do I keep them root bound...bury the containers What????

I think you are mistaken about the ultimate size of this particular plant.
You may have observed some kind of plant with yellow or golden foliage that is small in a landscape, but it will not have been Metasequoia glyptostroboides 'Goldrush'. That is and always will be a big full size tree, likely to reach 100' in the wonderful growing conditions of Portland, OR.
If you wish further information, you might post pictures of plants that you've seen at the small scale that you desire - and participants here can identify them for you.
