Is sore-hock a plant?

Pisa, Italy

Hello everybody,

I really need your help, if you can! I am an Italian student and I am translating a book from English to Italian. The story takes place in a rural background, presumably British countryside in the Middle Ages. I haven't been able to translate the name of a plant or flower which is called "sore-hock". It cannot refer to the illness that rabbits have, because, as you can see from the context, it doesn't make any sense; for example:

"somewhere underneath the bracken, sore-hocks and willow herb..."

"which she's abandoned at her husband's feet into the sore-hocks..."

I really think that the author is referring to some kind of plant. Do you know what could it be? And, more importantly, what is its scientific name? Thank you so much! You would be of great help!

Isabella
