Hello! I'm in the midst of getting my So CA garden started for the summer months and have a question I hope can be answered here. Two years ago I bought 12 bags of Mel's Mix (Mel Bartholomew of SFG) and it cost a pretty penny at the time. Yesterday my wife and I decided to remove Mel's Mix since we figured it would not be nutrient rich as it had endured two years of watering. It has a lot of roots, some from the previous plants and other roots that are "sneaking" in from below that are probably weeds. As I put the dirt in a pile outside the garden I couldn't help but think what a waste of probably good planting soil as I have the ability to sift out the roots and such & reuse it So my question is, instead of just buying new soil (Miracle Gro Potting Soil for plants and vegetables is less expensive but what my wife proposes), are there additives such as vermiculite, etc. that would makes this soil reusable? If so, what would any of you recommend & what would the ratio be of those additives be as I can estimate what I have. Much thanks in advance!
Recycle Mel's Mix
