Hi I am in South Arkansas zone 7. I am wanting to find a fast growing evergreen that would give me privacy (at least 5 ft tall) and if possible a sound barrier (I live on a busy road). If it could be something edible that would be an even bigger BONUS! I am hoping to get a fence put up around the perimeter of my property this spring so a fast growing evergreen vine might work too. I have children and dogs so I prefer the evergreen to be non poisonous. The property I bought has some boxwood hedges about 5ft tall and 3 ft wide. I have a lot of little 1-2ft hedges that have grown out from the roots of the boxwood. I have to cut them off from the main root and somehow get them to root on their own if I were to use them. I was also concerned that they may not be like the parent plant (not as wide or tall). If anyone has any suggestions or can give insight on to how to root the boxwood hedges I would greatly appreciate it. Or if you know of a hedge/shrub/bush that is evergreen. Also if anyone knows of an evergreen vine that grows and spreads well on a fence that is nonpoisonous I would love to hear your suggestion. I was giving some thought into hops but wanted to ask your opinion before I decided for sure. I love Dave's garden. I have learned so much from all of you. Thanks!
