I have a banana plant that I'm growing in a greenhouse just north of Nashville, Tennessee in the new zone 7. The leaves are folding down but still look nice and green. What's going wrong to make the leaves not stand tall?
Thanks,
Ann
My Banana Plant Leaves Are Wilting
Hi Ann. What variety of banana do you have? I grow Musa basjoo outside here. I'm just up the road from you about an hour or so. :)
It's supposed to be a Musa. I purchased it from Florida through eBay a little over a year ago. It spent last summer outside, facing north (afternoon shade). It has a couple of babies growing up through the soil right now but the leaves on the mother plant are hanging down the trunk. (BTW, I am in Robertson County, what about you?)
Thanks.
I am in Montgomery County. My M. basjoo generally dies to the ground when temps get cold. I usually just let the leaves hang to afford a modicum of "mulching" for the newer shoots. I have had several babies over time. Last winter, the weather was so warm that the leaves stayed green for much longer. This year, everything is brown and has been for awhile.
My Musa is out in the yard. This isn't the greatest photo but ...
