Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

I have some very large potted hydrangeas i bought from plant ranch last spring-can i leave them in the pots over winter out side or do i have to get them planted in the ground!?

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Dori I would certainly put them inside if you want to keep them in their pots and preferably somewhere that is frost free!! I'm not sure about the hardiness of your hydrangeas but usually, if the ground is not frozen, it is possible to plant them at this time of the year. For instance, they would come through the winter here in VA. If you do put them in the ground then add a good few inches of mulch to protect them, but don't let the mulch touch the stems.
