I think I already know the answer to my question, but want some more input.
I customer brought this leaf into the garden center today, wondering why the tree hadn't started turning orange yet. It was planted last year and she didn't keep any of the tags. It looks like a Acer palmatum. She's going to bring in pictures of the tree tomorrow. None of the leaves have fallen off, they just haven't changed color. I didn't ask her the location of the tree - sun/shade, etc.
I think it's just too early around here. Up to 2-3 weeks ago, our temps were still in the 80's.

does not look familiar to me.
Mine don't have a hint of color yet, like you mentioned, it is just too warm.
