It looks like a Acer palmatum. She's going to bring in pictures of the tree tomorrow. None of the leaves have fallen off, they just haven't changed color. I didn't ask her the location of the tree - sun/shade, etc.
I think it's just too early around here. Up to 2-3 weeks ago, our temps were still in the 80's.
