Now you can say again---"Gita! Why do you do this to yourself???"

I made these all pretty---lined them all up. Took me a bit of time to do this---
but you are worth it....OH! I said that already.....;o(...

These are seeds I just collected from my Estonian Clematis "Piilu". (Little Duckling).
They all have a tail!!! A hairy tail!! Like something out of a Fairy tale!
The seeds look just like little Sperms! AWWWW...so cute!....

No truffles for me- oddly I am clueless on the botany but does Dingo Emu Koala Kookaburra Platypus still earn me anything? How amazing to see a real platypus. I did a grade school report on them. approx four decades + ago...

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Juney- what cute cupcakes!
Diana, lovely flowers, thanks.
Jill, I love the calves.
Becky, she's adorable!

Well...

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Sally--
In my book you are 100% correct on the animals.
I would have said all the same!

From my trip to Hawaii in the early 80's--i DO recognize some pf the plants--
but have NO idea of their names....
Gita

Scott County, KY(Zone 5b)

sallyg and Gitagal:

Yes, all animals affirmative. But - with no plants - twice nothing is still naught.

UMD_Terp:

??????????????????

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Red Puffball Tree
Deciduous Azalea
Flame Tree
Pink Trumpet Vines
Rainbow Bushes

(not terribly serious answers!)

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Paul---

Ahem......two negatives (nothing) multiplied --is a Positive!

Hence--nothing x nothing = something......:o)

Just joshing....trying to impress you that i DO remember that
from my math classes.... G.

Central, MD(Zone 7a)

Oh man..OK I'll give a square look at them tomorrow. Gezz. No free rides.

Scott County, KY(Zone 5b)

Now Gita...

Nothing is not negative; nothing has no value + or -.

So something (+) times nothing = nothing. Get something on the other side of the equation; then, you'll have something.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Valley--

SO! -2 x -2 is NOT +4 ????

Hey! I am NOT a math person in any way! At least NOT the math of today.
So--I may be wrong. I never even too Algebra in HS! Had to take a "make-up class"
so I could take any college courses.

I grew up on the metric System--and that makes a lot more sense to me
than anything. Everything is in units of 10. Easy--Peazy!.
10-mm=1 cm. 10cm.=1 decameter. etc...

I also never had a calculator for most of my life--so my brain can do good math
by just rounding things off to 10.

This works wonderful in retail--like, if something is $4.99 and it is 40% off--
all you do is move the decimal one place to the left--and now you have the value of
10%--49 cents. The "whole" ($4.99) being looked at as 100%.
Round it off to 50 cents. Now--You can either Multiply that (the 50 cents)
by 4 or by 6. 4 would give you the discounted rate-(% off--$2)-- 6 would give you the
remaining rate--the actual cost $3)--MINUS the 1 cent x 6 or 4 you "borrowed"to round it off.

So--your final cost (40% off of $5.00) would be 50 cents x 6 ($3) minus 6 cents
you "borrowed" to round it off. Therefore--$ $2.94.

If this seems too complicated--just go with the rounded off amount--and you will know,
ballpark, how much you will pay for the item.

Believe me--if you have ever understood the metric System--this works very
quickly in your mind. A matter of 10--20 seconds. OR--call it just common sense.

Calculators have deadened the brains of school-age kids NOT to think--not to
process numbers in the head. Why should they? They have a calculator.

Overall--reducing anything to 10% and then dealing with that 10% as ONE UNIT--
you can figure a lot of stuff out. Talking about every day stuff--like grocery shopping...
prices--discounts, sales prices and such. NOT high level math.

Gita

Scott County, KY(Zone 5b)

I have no argument with you being correct about a negative times a negative. I have even less argument with your explanations of discounts - right on!

I am not in the class of calculator dependent youth. I have crossed the half century boundary, though I know I have not the years of your wisdom. This is not meant to be a whippersnapper dispute - just accurate description of what I said to sallyg and UMD_Terp, who are whippersnappers both.

Nothing equals zero, or null: 0. Zero (or nothing) is not a negative; negatives are less than zero on the number line. Zero is not a positive; it is the dividing point between positive numbers and negative numbers on the number line.

That is what has been presented. Zero times a positive or zero times a negative...you still end up with zero, or nothing.

Or - as my German wife may be saying over my shoulder - neither of you are arguing about the same thing....
