My neighbor had some volunteer pumpkin plants to pop up in her yard and she gave me one. This is my first time growing a pumpkin plant. I planted it in my garden area and it looked like it was very happy and doing great. It was very orange and getting big. I kept checking the stem to see if it was turning brown, trying to see when the pumpkin may be ripe. We have had a good deal of rain and the pumpkin formed a nice size crack on it's shoulder the goes at least half way around. I cut the pumpkin stem and sat it on my deck trying to decide what to do. I have no idea if it's any good or even if it's ripe all the way, so I cut it open and see some green areas on the inside. I don't know if it's fit to eat. I don't know if the green is mold. I had a piece of landscape fabric under it when it was growing so that it would not be in direct contact with the ground. It still formed kind of black spots on its underside, though. Here is are some pictures of the cut open pumpkin. Any help from an experienced gardener is greatly appreciated, because I have to decide what to do with this cut open pumpkin now. Thanks in advance!
