hello Floridians :)
do any of you grow thatch palms? it says they are hardy from 10a but my Home Depot has been selling it this year and I am wondering about trying it. I think it would survive fine with protection in my south yard.
it supposedly is a slow grower, but I love the look of it.
thanks
Thatch Palm
Coastal,
Look at your user name and go for it!
LOL
Sidney
I'll push the zone then ;) haha thanks
Depending on how big it is, I have had good luck using big packing boxes & old garbage cans to up end overplants when it does get a bit too cold for them. I kept a couple hibiscus green all thru last winter using the up-ended trash cans on the cold nites - granted, it was a mild one.
yes, so thankful for this past winter! not so much with the early spring though. good for hibiscus, I bet they showed their gratitude as soon as it warmed up!
actually, I'm not too worried about the zone. I was wondering if anyone actually grew them in Central FL...I haven't seen any.
they come in 1-5 gallon containers, so just leaves. easy to cover if anything
Thrinax radiata does well along the I-4 corridor. They're a little hardier than their native environment would suggest.
