Singles to doubles?

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

I know that daylilies 'hybridize' well and that is part of the fun. My question is can a single bloomer become a double or a double revert to a single?

I have about 30 "clumps' of single and 2 of double ditchlilies along my front ditch. This year there fewer singles and many more doubles than the two I started with. Is it because the singles have become doubles or that the doubles have really outpaced the singles in proliferation, or ?

Thanks for any insight on this. Judy

PS Some day I hope to join you all in the land beyond Fulva! (And with a better camera!)

HI, your doubles are Kwanzos...they reproduce well and are very reliable. I brought some when I moved last season. They do reproduce well once started ,which may be why your 2 became more.
If you are going to do a lot of flowers in that area, might want to separate them out. They send out underground roots and can travel into other areas and take over. I have mine in one corner patch.
Enjoy..that is how I got started on the daylily path.
