I've caught the conifer bug

Niles, MI(Zone 5a)

Weerobin, I've been eyeing that space back there. Not mine.....yet.

VV, 'Shawnee' is now on my list. Shame on you....

Also, a correction. I misnamed 'monumentale'. That one is actually 'newton sentry'. 'monumentale' is still in the pot. The one above is actually acer saccharum 'newton sentry'.

Scott County, KY(Zone 5b)

Depending on how bad you want 'Shawnee'...I have two in containers. I really should plant them here - somewhere - but they deserve someone with a passion for growing them.

Maybe one could cross paths with you some day...

Just dusted off the WELCOME MAT...

Japanese maples can set off those conifers too!

I am dabbling in JM's. only because last week 2 different vendors sent me some in error. On the same day. Could it be a sign? :-)

I like that: WELCOME MAT

I have a very good friend who lives in Crown Point, IN. That appears to be about 90 minutes from your town. This is possible. Next planned trip, we should coordinate.

I'll start digging. Got 10 more today.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

I'm sure there are some Viburnums that would add wonderful upright growth and red fall color too offset your many weepers and gold accents. Now, who to ask about that...

Niles, MI(Zone 5a)

Hmmm. No clue. :-)

Hi Dybbuk-
I have been watching your thread (you know you are crazed, right?). It made me remember one of the childhood experiences I had that probably contributed to my own mania for plants. I must have been about 10-12, and my best friend and I would occasionally take a not-shortcut to go through someones yard, they must have had a couple acres. It was all trees and bushes, obviously planted on purpose. By then we knew the usual forest trees because we played in the woods a lot (this was Ohio), and we tried to guess what these odd trees were. There seemed to be one of everything, and I did not recognize any of them. Finally one day a man came out of the house (I learned much later he was a retired botany professor). He must have been surprised to notice two little girls trying to identify his trees, but he took us on a tour, and explained what they were, and how to tell them apart. Another time he showed us how he planted a shrub. Looking back, I bet he got a kick out of our interest, it's fun to share this stuff.
It's hot now in Michigan for digging-make sure you stay hydrated!

Awesome story. And yes, I'm crazed. When I get a passion for something, I kinda skydive in to it. I hope to be that man in your story some day. And yes, keeping hydrated 🍺

Hi Dybbuk
How did you make the little water glass icon?
*o/* (that's a cheerleader with pompoms-I use it when I get news of some kind of triumph).

It's an app on my iPad. 🌳
