I'm looking to identify this cranesbill...do you know it?

Taylorsville, KY

I bought this spring of 2011 from a local nursery. They are not carrying it this year. I really like it and would like to get another....thanks! kim

Looks like our native geraneum maculatum to me.
I've never planted it, yet it shows up reliably in my yard every year,
I'm sure courtesy of our feathered friends.
It tolerates shade better than most geraneums.

Hi Scott.....thanks; I really like it and it has done very well but it does disappear later in the summer. Maybe that's why I like it so much too is that it is heavily shaded where it's at and I have a hard time finding stuff that thrives there. kim

Yep, looks like Geranium maculatum. I have it for trade every year because it multiplies really well in the wilder section of my garden. It definitely handles the dry shade with no problems. I also found some Lamium galobdolon beneath some pines last year that is doing well. I bet it could be a thug in the right conditions, but I don't mind it in the dry shade where I never water.
