Florida nurseries

Hot Springs, AR(Zone 7b)

Hi Floridians,

I will be in Orlando, Fl all next week for a work related conference. I would love to go plant shopping. Looking for your uncommon plant nursery. Anyone know where I can get in trouble? Also any cool botanicals places would be fun.

Thanks,
Daisy

Selby Gardens is an amazing botanical gardens and the distance between Orlando, FL and Sarasota, FL is 110 miles - one hour 45 minutes - well worth the drive, imho .

You may want to go to Leu Gardens.

thank you both for these wonderful leads. I will definately get to both of them!

Clermont, FL(Zone 9a)

Checkw ith Orlando Chamber of Commerce as I know there are some great public gardens right in Orlando.
I am just 23 miles from Orlando. Also, lots of plant nurseries around there. Have fun. You don't want all work and no play.

Leu Gardens is totally a good lead from Turtlewalker. Plan for a couple of hours of gardening fun!

This is a great video tour of Leu Gardens you might have already found but will enjoy if you haven't.

Have a great visit!

Can you buy plants at Leu or Selby Gardens? I thought they were just for touring.

If you want a plant nursery where you buy plants you could try Lukas Nursery in Oveido, it is a huge nursery with a butterfly garden and tons of plants of all kinds. It is about 15-20 minutes from downtown Orlando.

Leu Gardens, it is a nice botanical garden to visit and get away from the crowds, but not a plant nursery that sells plants, they do have a gift shop. The first Monday of each month is free admission.

Cool Sherri! I didn't remember being able to buy plants at Leu Gardens. It has been years since I've been there, but wasn't sure. Things do change.

Lukas is a huge nursery that is well worth the visit also if you are traveling home on 75 then you might like to stop in Tallahassee and go to 2 nurseries there. The native nursery is very good http://www.nativenurseries.com/
And the Tallahassee Nursery is also special http://www.tallahasseenurseries.com/

Winter Springs, FL(Zone 9b)

Always good to know where the great nurseries are. Anyone know any great nurseries around Sanibel Island, we will be down that way next month? Or some great gardens to visit?

If you are into fruit "Just Fruit and Exotics Nursery" is a very very good place to go to. It is south of Tallahassee

I always liked the bok tower gardens, especially when the tower 'sings'. Maybe its best tho in the spring.

For a mere 120 bucks, there is always epcot, they can do some amazing stuff

When I was sending the You Tube video of Leu Gardens in a response earlier in this thread from myself, this is what I actually sent:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tzuk8HqIcSA - 136k - similar pagesJul 9, 2009 ... An amazing video tour into 58 acres of tropical formal gardens including a butterfly garden, and a giant rose garden. as seen on ...

Now I am trying to wonder how the one showing up on my response; this one:

http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/189133/ .........showed up there?

I would appreciate it if DG staffers would D-mail me at least, if they find a problem with an address I send. I never was even at this one and did not send it. I do not like being misrepresented in my writings, and do not like the idea of having my informaton altered without notice, and especially with a diverting substitute I did not choose.

Respectfully,

David

That is interesting David….When you first posted the You tube link, I visited it and enjoyed it a lot. Strange how that happened…Creepy!

Thank you Tara.

The concept is very uncool. Someone did it and should be questioned and reprimanded by the administration.

Completely agree!
