I read a few places this could be trained up a tells with help. I have a large patio pot with round 4-5' trelliis; but I am unsure how many to plant. I have not grown one before...would 1 plant branch out enough to fill this pot/tells?

You need more plants and pinch the tip of the new growth to encourage branching.

Tammy, in my experience, sweet potato plants vine nicely, but I would not expect it to grow too quickly, even in full sun. I put them in large containers and usually have more than one type of ipomoea.
