Caterpiller ID please

I was cleaning out a flower bed, turned over a plastic lid and found this underneath.
It's got such a pretty purple underbelly, I can't help but think it's gotta be a butterfly.

No butterfly caterpillar. More like a moth...probably a pesky one at that :o)

well fooey. ty for telling me. when i went back outside, it was gone.... no telling where it went.

There are some strange looking caterpillars out there. I mainly raise and release butterflies and giant moths. However, every now and then I'll come across an odd looking one and raise it. 99% of the time it turned out to be a pesky drab moth :o)

Ahhhh thanks!! Good to know. Now I gotta see what the yellow cocoons are that all over the place right now.
