Botany Quiz: What is a monocarpic plant?
I only knew this because I looked it up. Learned my "something" for the day.
I knew it was only one but one what? I thought it was only one location but voted - A plant that only blooms once, then dies. Don't ask, me, why?
Very true podster, but they do have 'babies' that will continue on.
Some days bromeliads make me sad.....but mostly I think they are cool! =)
Giant Agave is one of those? Yes Tequila !!! lol
Kalanchoe gastonis-bonnieri. Or Donkey Ears chalanchoe is another. ^_^
I guessed the correct answer. The first time I've ever got one right! LOL
The word is used to describe the habit of some meconopsis plants.
Some do not let them flower the first year, so the plant is stronger the second year.
And if I understand correctly if the bromeliad blooms are stopped, it will produce more pups instead of dying so quickly.
Is there a term describes plant reproduces its offsprings by means of making pups instead of/ or besides the ability of making flowers and seeds? I think bromeliads reproduce this way before the plant die?
I guessed the right answer by reasonable deduction.
Cardiocrinum Giganteum[the biggest lily in the world]-...You wait 7-8 yrs from seed, and then its all over!!!!
I guessed a wrong answer...again. At least my score is near perfect - almost always wrong.
That is okay as you are learning.
We are all not experts, but gardeners who learn from each other.
There are probably topics which you know better than the rest of us.
Sure, there are! Thanks for the vote of confidence.
Due to experience I know how to kill a clematis (too much water), how not to prune a rose, waiting for the broccoli to flower is not a good idea! My expertise is killing dahlia tubers over winter. Write for details - LOL.
I got it right- but I could only think of the word saying 1 fish, and there was no answer for 1 color... Sorry, brain is melting down I think, chuckl
I've known this for a couple of years from when I started researching agave. That's been fun.
weedsfree;; Me too!!! Tequila !!!! ^_^
I always thought bromeliads were, but never hurts to learn something new every day! I thought they were monocarpic, but maybe they are something else?
Nope ~ I do believe you are correct.
☺ thanks.
