caterpillar nursery

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

I found these cats on my lima bean vines and it looked like it might be a longtailed skipper. Ive never seen one and so I came up with this make-shift nursery from a wire basket and panty hose. The small vial holds the stems of bean leaves.

Here is the skipper that I showed the caterpillar about two months ago. It took 42 days in my kitchen.

Thanks, juhur. This was my first time to ever take a caterpillar from the wild but it was getting cold and I wondered if it would make it outdoors. It was really exciting to see him after such a long time. I had given up hope that he was still alive. He looked like a tiny blue green bird.
