for the first time this year I have the early crop of figs. My question is when to pick them, they do not feel soft to the touch yet, but now I see little ones forming right near the brebas. I've read that the brebas ( or fioroni in the article I was reading) are delicious, but I've also read that they are not as good as the main crop. Anybody have any opinions and recommendations when to pick?
when to pick breba figs
Cindy,
As the fruit matures, it gets heavy enough to droop. Cradle it in the palm of your hand and lift the fig slightly. When it is ready to pick, it will come off in your hand. When I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area, my fig tree always produced 2 crops. Both were so delicious.
Here's a link that shows how the fig droops. However, he forgot Fig.6 — cradling the fig.

Thank you so much, that's exactly what I needed to know, great link, too.
