Would someone tell me how to get these seeds to germinate, Please. Don
coontie seeds how do I propagate
Are they fertile? At least in your area of the country, having fertile Zamia seeds is a likely possibility, but that doesn't mean that it's a given. These are normally very easy to germinate... just warm, moist germination medium (which can be anything from pumice or perlite to cactus soil). Most just rest them on the surface or barely set them in a depression. They need to be kept pretty moist and warm and nature will take off from there. If you have a lot of seed, cut one exactly down the middle length wise and you should see an embryo... if not, you do not have fertile seed.
what would a coontie embryo look like? thanks Don
pale, worm-like shape within the seed (about the same color as the 'meat' of the seed itself)
