Cold hardiness of certain vining plants

Ada, OK(Zone 7a)

I was hoping someone could enlighten me as to whether my Boston ivy, English ivy and Chocolate vine (Akebia trifoliata), all of which can take -20 degree temperatures, could stay outside on my porch during the winter here. I live in Oklahoma - Zone 7a, with a low of 0 degrees F. Thank you.

My general rule of thumb for things in pots is that it knocks about a zone off the hardiness. Since you're in 7a, you'd want things that are hardy to at least 6a to be sure they'll be hardy in pots. Anything that's only hardy to zone 7 will be a bit more borderline, although if your porch offers some protection from cold winds then they may be fine too. All the things you mentioned are hardy to zone 5 (and some to zone 4) so they should be OK.

Thanks for your input!
