Still looking for a pink lily... :-(

Albany, ME(Zone 4b)

A few years ago I had a beautiful solid pink lily, a very clear pink color. It's the pink of Chiffon Morn petunia, Bonica rose, geranium striatum sanguinem. It died and I've been looking for it ever since. But photos are so unreliable!

In the fall of 2009 I thought I'd found them. Lily Algarve. But the only place I could find to buy them required that I get 30 for $29. So I planted all thirty in a fallow place in the veggie garden. The spring of 2010 only 3 came up, I figure voles. Those 3 were bitten off by a woodchuck. So I bought another 30 in the fall of 2010. Finally one has bloomed and it's way too dark a pink. So my quest begins again.

Can anyone help me replace my beautiful pink lily?

My new "Tiny Athlete" lily has just bloomed, and it is the exact right color and consistency (no variagation). But, of course, it is tiny. Either my memory is faulty or Algarve is not quite it. Keep the suggestions coming if you can!

I also read in the Van Engelen forum that Algarve starts dark and matures to a "warm satiny pink." My Algarve is getting lighter. Maybe my memory is selecting only the lighter mature color. But I kinda don't think so.

I've decided that Algarve is the one I've been looking for after all. It took almost a week, but the final pink was very satisfying. And the second plant that bloomed turned the mature pink almost immediately. Perhaps it has something to do with heat, as the first one bloomed at a cool time and the second one bloomed during a hot spell. Anyway, I'm VERY HAPPY that my search for the pink lily I lost has succeeded.

Thanks to all.

This is Elodie. She is all pink with extra petals which are standing up in the next photo.

This is the third year these are growing, but the first year I've seen this. It is definitely the second layer of petals.

Lovely pink lily shots. Algarve is a great clear color.
cathy, Elodie is one of the lilies I got from Bleek when I first started co-ops. It's one of my favorites and it multiplies nicely.
