On several (but not all) of my mother's trumpet lilies the stems have rather suddenly collapsed about 4 or 5 inches from the top. The leaves above the collapsed stem have of course wilted and blackened. From there down the plant is still robust and healthy looking. We have had unusual weather this spring, cool and rather wet interrupted by a few days in the nineties, then back to cool and wet. Could this be the cause? I didn't see any sign of insects. These lilies are on the east side of the house. More of the same lilies on the south side of the house are doing fine with no damage.
I don't have a picture right now as I didn't have my camera with me when I visited her. Any ideas what caused this damage? I'm hoping it's not something that will spread to all of her lilies.
What caused this damage
