Sorry it's not a better picture. All the close-ups were blurry and it would do a flicking/flopping movement then cover it's head w/ it's heiny when I disturbed it. Apx. 3" long. Head was white and brown stripes.

Looks like an Armyworm to me, bigred.
Yep, that is what I think also. Eats anything in it's way! If you don't want to kill it, at least toss it away from your flowers. Between those and the Salt Marsh caterpillars they can do some damage.
Oh shoot! I tossed it into a flowerbed.
